Once More Into The Breach

Tonight (Thursday) is the last Open announcement from Mr.
Castro and while the theories abound about what it will be, the leading vote
getters among Canucks is Burpees and Thrusters. Before we get to that glorious
moment though, there is still our regularly scheduled programming to get
through. It was nice to see that the class had more than 2 people in it and
Coach D (@DefconRX) was ready to put us to work. Must be a sign that Open
Season is winding down and everyone is trying to get back to normal.
500m Row
5 Beat Swings
10 OHS (PVC)
10 Push Press (PVC)
5 Beat Swings
Now with the stupid shoulder issues I was prepared to sit
out the strength portion, but D got me motivated and I decided to give it a
shot. Now we were looking for a Squat Snatch, 2 OHS and 3 Lunges at the
heaviest possible weight. The Squat Snatch is not my favorite lift but I gave
it a shot and managed to hit a few solid complexes with a max final weight of
85lbs. Now considering my 1RM OHS is 100lbs, I was very happy with the result.
WOD (12 minute AMRAP Ascending Ladder)
3 Push Press (@105lbs)
3 Toes to Bar
3 Kettlebell Swings (@50lbs)
6 Push Press (@105lbs)
6 Toes to Bar
6 Kettlebell Swings (@50lbs)
9 Push Press (@105lbs)
9 Toes to Bar
9 Kettlebell Swings (@50lbs)
15 Push Press (@105lbs)
15 Toes to Bar
15 Kettlebell Swings (@50lbs)
and so on…
Toes to Bar? Really? I’m still sore from 2 weeks ago and
after showing that I can hit a T2B, well no more messing around with Knees to
Elbows. This was tough and no matter how much I told myself to slow down I
still wanted to work hard. Mission accomplished. I managed to get 2 T2B in the
round of 15 and be the time I got there my body was spent.
Then the news everyone dreaded. 14.5 was Burpees and
Thrusters in a 21 – 18 – 15 – 12 – 9 – 6 – 3 Rep killer. The caveat. For the
first time in Open history, the clock wasn’t going to be able to save you. 14.5
was for time.
Before we left for the evening, we were treated to a 3-way
throw down. Ms. Meg, @zlreyes and Mr. Aiken took 14.5 by the horns and went at
it. I won’t lie, they are brave peeps. Ugliness is what this looked like. Conservatively
it’s going to take me 35 minutes to get through this one, if I can get through
it at all. Wait, what? I mean I will get through it, I’m just not sure what
shape I will be in at the end. Well I have until Saturday to figure out a strategy.
