Omaha, Omaha, Set (Football and CrossFit Edition)

@missade3 this post is for you! What you are looking at
folks is the Resurrection Catholic Secondary School 1995 Senior Football
Team.  We were a powerhouse, complete
with NFL style scandal and a great story. Now the reason for the flashback will
become evident at the end of this post, so just take in the old school
black-and-white photo awesomeness. I was a little concerned after my first
class back in almost a week, but I woke up this morning and I felt pretty good.
So good in fact I broke out the ‘skinny’ jeans I bought while I was in Grove
City (I bought some items intentionally small so that I would have items as I shrank).
Looks like the November trip to Iowa will now include some mass shopping (not
sure how I feel about that yet).
Warm-up ‘A’
400m Run
3 minute AMRAP
5 Pull-ups (Green Band)
10 Push-ups
15 Squats
Now my hips were still tight as I started the Squats
(seriously, still?) but I made my way through. Tonight was going to be a strength
complex, a round of Split Jerks and then a crazy burner. We started off with 10
minutes to find the heaviest possible weight for a Push Press – Push Jerk –
Split Jerk complex. I got to 145lbs, but the limiter was the Push Press (no
idea why). I added 10lbs for the Split Jerk complex, but after last night I had
to unload after the first 3 rounds to 135lbs. I could have kept going at
155lbs, but my form was starting to suffer. Seems like a no brainer.
WOD
12 minute AMRAP
6 HSPU (Box)
8 Knees to Elbows
10 Pistols (5 each leg, 16” Box)
12 Pull-ups (Purple Band)
14 Kettlebell Swings (@70lbs)
I think once I finish the Half Marathon I’m going to focus
on trying to ‘get’ HSPU (Handstand Push-ups). I think I will be able to do the
Push-up part, it’s the kicking up to the wall that I’m worried about. Today I managed
to finish 3 full rounds plus 2 Knees to Elbows. I could really feel the
tightness in my hips and legs during the Pistols, but that is a back burner
issue for the next 3 weeks. As long as I can keep running, everything is fine.
Still being a bit sick didn’t do me any favors (lung capacity), but I was still
pretty happy with my result. Happy, not satisfied. Don’t think there’s a
difference? Happy means you will stop pushing to get better, not satisfied, you
keep working to get better.

Cash-out
3×1 minute ME Shuttle Run
I’m working hard to make sure I do the work. As hard it is
some time, Tavia’s programming has a purpose and if I want to get better, I have
to get moving.  Good job @CADPRO00 for
getting out there too, although I think you could have been running faster than
me. Enjoy it while you can bro, because there might be a day when you will have
to chase me.
BWOD/WLC Bonus
“Griff”
800m Run
400m Run Backwards
800m Run
400m Run Backwards
This is where all those years of playing football came in
handy. @missade3 warned me to be careful while running backwards (almost like
she knew that I was a Giant Klutz), but it wasn’t required. I finished the
first 2 laps and flipped around. I was fast! Ok, well maybe not fast, but I had
almost the same pace going in reverse, but I did notice that it was a lot more
stress on my lower legs. Finished the 2400m in 16m47s. Not lightning fast, but
a decent time.  It’s a sure thing that
1995 me might have been a bit faster, but wouldn’t have made the full distance…
For sure…
