Sometimes Slow is Fast

I’m coming for you again… And then we are breaking up…

Who is that neon clad masked man slowly jogging the streets of the Hill?? Well it’s certainly not an Olympic athlete, but your regular Joe just trying to squeeze in the fitness.  It’s been an eye-opening week for me.  All the little things I’ve somehow managed to turn a blind eye to struck home all at the same time. Why won’t this shirt stay tucked in? These shorts must have shrunk in the wash. Along with these pants. Ugh. Things have slipped and it’s not ok. My response so far has been to Run. It’s the easiest. I don’t have to drive anywhere or do anything complicated. Just shoes, neon and out the door.

Streaking

Today’s Afternoon Run (Friday) marks the 4thone since Sunday and brings my total (not counting Sunday) to 17.2KMs. I don’t think I’ve hit a number like that in a week since Chicago.  It also gives me a chance for the 5X Badge on Nike Run Club and an outside shot at the 7X Badge. Not that those are important, just a nice to have.  I’ve also got a step streak going on right now. My goal is 10,000 per day and I’m riding a 8-day streak. My goal here is to get to 60 days.  I hit that during the winter and found that the challenge got me out when the weather was terrible and I didn’t want to. Let’s see if it can have the same affect now.

Found some trails… and nature.

Goals

So where am I going? That’s not easy to decide. I want to get myself below that 300 number and I’m very close to that.  I also want to have some longer term goals so that I have something to shoot for. Do you find that it’s easier to be motivated in the run up to a challenge and then a struggle after? There won’t be any super long Runs (nothing over 10K), but I think I’m signing up for the Scotiabank 5K in the fall. The goal there will be to run a time that is sub 34m39 (current PB). I’m also going for the 60-day step challenge and the monthly #BigBrnzChallenge. Hopefully that will be enough to keep me moving in the right direction.

What are your goals? You read this blog for a reason. Have you figured out what your BHAG is? Oh, that stands for Big Hairy Audacious Goal for those not on the motivational speaking circuit. Mine are listed above and I am planning to slowly add the Bike, @CrossFitCanuck and the Pool back to my regime. You have to enjoy the time outside while you can, because winter is just around the corner…

Have a great long weekend.
