Torn, But Not Broken

Hello Ladies and Gents…

Things you didn’t expect to see 7 days after a significant injury… a blog post from me perhaps? True enough, but it has been a difficult few days. From the time of the injury until Friday afternoon, I was convinced that I had torn either my MCL or LCL (not my ACL because my knee didn’t swell with blood). It’s a pretty shitty feeling thinking/knowing/feeling that you are going to be spending 9 months trying to get back to where you were yesterday in motion and strength and another 6 months to regain you health.

Saturday I had maybe 20 degrees of motion in my knee and was using a cane (the hospital wanted crutches, but I hate crutches). Today I have over 60 degrees of motion and haven’t used the cane in the last 2 days. I still have some trouble with putting on socks and shoes, but it’s a small price to pay if it means I will be back in form in 2 to 4 weeks.

So this brings us to tonight. After a long break, Spritz and I had a nice little 30 minute session. Now when I say a nice 30 minute session I mean no heart monitor, no pacing and no resistance. This session and the ones that will be following over the next couple of days will be in an effort to get the leg ready for Sunday’s Ride for Heart. I have a lot of people who have pledged their support and I’m very near my goal, so the least that I can do is try my best to ride. Any hope of a quick time is out the window, but I won’t give up without a fight.

See you tomorrow night,

Beez
