So fresh of the euphoria (now there’s a word I’ve always
wanted to use in a post) of the inaugural (inaugural for this round anyway)
first session, I got a message from Julie from the MMM Diamond Dawgs looking
for a sub to play tonight. Now as most
of you know (although you might not), I’m not playing this year because of A)
my health and the toll ball takes on me and B) a gentlemanly wager with
@Keilshammer who said he would give up hockey if a stopped playing. Well, @Keilshammer started playing again
about ten minutes after the agreement (and if you ask him he will claim no
knowledge of said arrangement), but we all know the truth…
The Dawgs were strapped for bodies and I had my equipment in
the car (I’m a sub for both my former teams) so I agreed. In hindsight as I lay on the couch typing
this, maybe I should have said no. My
ankle is ON FIRE… and not in a good way (but big thanks to Julie for putting me
at 1B, because I have a feeling it could have been way worse if I was in the
field). Now considering that I was very restrained tonight, no sliding, no hard
digging and nothing silly,I find it
most unfair that I should be made to feel like this.
Got to the diamond and threw the ball around with Carl
trying to shake off the eight months of rust that had accumulated. It wasn’t
terrible and I had some good velocity and accuracy. No the first at bat of the season wasn’t that
pretty. Ended up fouling out and
possibly pulling an oblique, although I’m not 100% sure I know where or what an
oblique is (but it is fun tto say).
Finished the day 2-for-3 and made all the defensive plays (at a very
busy 1B I might add).
Now I know what you are thinking, ‘Here is the setback’.
Relax, I’m not throwing in the towel yet (or at all). I will head to bed early
and use the bike tomorrow to take some of the strain off. Still need to make sure I get my posterior
out of the house just to make sure I keep the pattern going. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to go ice
up (not really, I will be headed to bed instead, but close enough).
