Economics and Another ‘Look’

If there is a knock on CrossFit, it’s the cost of ‘branded’
merchandise. Wait, that isn’t a knock on CrossFit, that’s a knock on REEBOK. Do
you hear me Reebok? There is no need to price gouge us, we will buy more stuff
if it doesn’t cost the same as a small plane. Allow me to give you perspective,
4 pairs of shorts (3 Reebok CrossFit and 1 Reebok 87) list price $250.
Seriously? That’s just asinine. So with economics in mind a big ‘Thank You’ to
Tavia for hooking us up with coupons to the Employee store. Now selection
varies depending on the day you go, but my DU and short situation was becoming
dire. These new shorts should prevent any Miley Cyrus posterior chain exposure
while WODs are going on. I’ve also re-replaced my running shoes. I had bought a
pair, but as I wore them around the house, they weren’t right for me.

What an absolutely craptastic day Mother Nature. Cold, Wet
and Windy. I think it’s a safe bet that we won’t be doing much outside work today.
I got to @CrossFitCanuck early so I did a bunch of stretching and even managed
to do some Pull-ups. I’m going to keep working on getting my lats, shoulders
and upper body strong so I can start nailing some of these movements I’m having
trouble with. Today we started with 12 minutes to find a 1RM Snatch. Still
having issues getting everything working together, but I managed a new PR
@145lbs! Straight back to work for another 12 minutes to find a 1RM Clean &
Jerk. I was pretty stoked to get into this because I have Power Cleaned 205lbs,
but couldn’t get it overhead. I matched my previous PR with a 185lb lift, but I
could not get 190lbs… ARGGHHHH!!!

You could do the Rows at any time, just not back to back. There
was the option to run through the monsoon (which @Keilshammer and @Wardy_ did),
but I declined. @Wardy_ is probably thinking she should have declined too. Those
skips took forever, but once we got into the WOD it was game on. I got through
3 full rounds plus 2 KBS and I finished both of the Rows. I felt strong on the
Row (go figure), but I also felt really good on the Pull-ups and the Box Jumps.
No one managed to get through the WOD, but the 1030a class all went full out.

Nothing crazy after that doozy of a WOD. This week was the
first Gymnastics Class and @SarahBassels and I were watching Kirsty warming up
and I think the look says it all. I didn’t realize you could get your body to do
some of the things that she managed on the high bar. I’m not ready for that
yet, but it would be cool to try some of those movements.

Birthday and Halloween shenanigans are on tap for a Saturday
night and then back to the grindstone hard this week.
