3 More Feet… F#&k

It’s like dangling a carrot in front of a horse or dangling
a pizza/beer/sundae in front of me, but just out of reach. That’s the state of
affairs after today’s WOD (and yes, I’m writing this post backwards). Tavia
stayed (and worked out with us!!!) and I was determined to climb the Rope
today.  I chalked up and after a couple
false starts (and everyone watching) I stared to make my way towards the thin
air hanging in the rafters. I went higher than I had ever been before, but I started
having trouble getting my foot lock and my arms started getting tired. I got
about 3 feet from the top and my legs went squirrely (and as a result my arms
and thumb started taking a beating) and I couldn’t get a lock.  I had to work my way back down and call it a
day. I’m pissed. Not because I don’t appreciate how far I’ve come (when I started
3 months ago I couldn’t pull myself up from the floor, never mind hang 20 feet
up), but because I was right there.  All I
needed to do was take a breath, calm down and get 1 (or maybe 2) more good locks. Monday
I’m getting to the top.

Warm-up
500m Row

2 Rounds of
20 Mountain Climbers
10 Squats
10 Kettlebell Swings (@25lbs)
10 Squat Cleans with PVC

As soon as I started swinging the kettlebell I knew I was in
trouble.  Everything was stiff and sore
from the Hero WOD that we worked through yesterday.  In fact, I started having doubts that I would
be able to even attempt the Rope after class. Today we would be working the
Front Squat with 2×5 @80%, 2×3 @85%, 2×2 @90% and 2×1 @95% of our 1 rep max.
Like some newbie I started doing the math using my Back Squat number (300lbs).  I had all kinds of trouble and couldn’t
figure out what the issue was. @DefconRX gave me a tip that ended up helping
lots and I even got almost parallel. I finished @225lb which ended up being a
new PR by 30lbs!!!

WOD
3 minute ME Row (YAY!)

5 minute AMRAP
5 Squat Clean Thrusters (@95lbs)
10 Ring Dips (with Green Band)

2 minute Rest

5 minute AMRAP
20 Pull-ups
30 Push-ups
40 Sit-ups
50 Squats

I heart the Row! As soon as I get on the machine (even if I’m
out of gas like tonight), I still have fun.
The first 45 seconds were serious and then it became a matter of just
getting to the end with good power and a good number.  72 calories in 3 minutes… Yeah, I’ll take
that. The rest of the WOD was tougher. I finished the first AMRAP with 3 full
rounds and the second one with 23 Sit-ups. The Pull-ups took the steam out of
me and by the time I hit the Push-ups I was spent.

A couple of housekeeping notes before I curl up into a
little ball of pain tonight.  @hoodieruns
there will be video evidence of the Rope Climb when it happens (so you can
share the moment) and I may even send you an autographed photo too! I seriously
love my @CrossFitCanuck family. You guys are absolutely awesome and we all have
a great vibe. We encourage, cheer and help each other any way we can and it is
truly an honor to be a part of it. Lastly as much as I hate shopping, two
shirts and a pair of pants made it into the ‘Too Big To Wear’ pile.   @Wardy_ (my personal fashion consultant) is chomping
at the bit for the shopping trip to restock the old wardrobe.

I’m very excited about the results (especially the ones I’ve
been seeing recently) and that 300 barrier better be quaking in its boots
because I am coming for it.
